About Lough Derg

The lakeside area extends a warm welcome to all visitors....
Lough Derg is, without doubt, one of the best, least crowded and unexploited cruising areas in Europe. This beautiful lake is approximately 25 miles long, over two miles wide in most places and 10 miles across at its widest point. It is set in a varied and unspoilt countryside of mountains, rolling hills and lush plains. The area of deep navigable non-tidal water exceeds 60 square miles. Around its shores are more than 10 safe harbours and several interesting Irish villages with welcoming pubs, serving real Irish food and drink to the sound of traditional Irish music. We love visitors to join in the great craic. "Explorers" are welcome to check out several sites of historical interest, most near to a harbour.

Dromineer and of course Shannon Sailing's Marina and Chandlery, Garrykennedy, Ballina / Killaloe, Scarriff, Mountshannon, Portumna Castle Harbour and Terryglass. In addition there are many other stoppng points - harbours, piers and private marinas.
